England Search for World Cup Bases Amid Concerns of Missing Out On Preferred Base to Netherlands.

The Football Association has dispatched scouts to the US this week to inspect potential bases for the upcoming global finals, amid growing apprehensions that their preferred site could be taken by the Dutch national team.

Tournament Draw Complications Alter Arrangements

Manager Thomas Tuchel had previously cleared an FA strategy for England to locate in Kansas after a pre-tournament training camp in Fort Lauderdale. Yet, after the recent group stage draw, there are now concerns that the Netherlands, who have their group games in Kansas, will be given first refusal on the chosen facility at Sporting Kansas City—a state-of-the-art centre used by US Soccer.

The world governing body assigns training bases according to geography and world rankings if there is a dispute, with the draw potentially placing the FA against the Netherlands and Argentina for sites in the tournament's south-central region.

Considering Other Sites

With England's group stage matches set to take place in Dallas, Boston, and New Jersey, the FA is now understood to be looking at alternative options on the eastern seaboard. The association started its scouting process for training bases at the beginning of the year, with Tuchel and director of football John McDermott touring potential locations during the Club World Cup last summer.

In spite of this advanced preparation, there was always an acceptance that the final tournament draw could significantly alter their logistical arrangements.

Later Round Logistics Plans

England have the eighth most demanding group stage schedule in terms of mileage. Winning Group L would set England on course for a round of 32 game in Atlanta, followed by potential round of 16 match in Mexico City.

  • Significant Change: The FA may decide to move between venues for the later rounds should England progress, a major shift from its standard protocol of maintaining a fixed tournament base.
  • Tournament Organizers Encouragement: FIFA is understood to be actively encouraging such a itinerant approach for the expansive 2026 tournament.

Once the training base is finalized, the FA will focus on organizing two friendly matches in Florida at the start of June.
